We take handover of software another team built. We read the code and assess the state of it. Then we say plainly, with reasons, whether it is worth continuing or rewriting.

Business logic and APIs. New systems usually start on NestJS. Where you already run PHP, we take it over and build on it rather than making you start again.

How we build it

  1. 01

    Study the process

    Sit with the people doing the work daily, not only with their managers. The process on paper and the process in practice usually differ.

  2. 02

    Scope the first release

    Start with the part that hurts most. Building everything in one pass takes longer and is more likely to head the wrong way.

  3. 03

    Design the data and the screens

    The data structure decides how far the software can grow later. Time spent here saves tearing it down and starting over.

  4. 04

    Build and deliver in stages

    Every few weeks something working lands for you to use and comment on. Wrong turns get caught early.

  5. 05

    Migrate the old data

    Move data across from spreadsheets or the previous system and reconcile the figures before going live. This is usually the heaviest step and the one people least expect.

  6. 06

    Go live and hand over

    Train the users, run alongside the old way for a while, then hand over the source code and documentation.

Kids Smile

A platform for dental clinics running myofunctional therapy programmes for children. Clinics assign exercises, track each child's progress and manage clinical material in one system. Built with NestJS and MongoDB, running on AWS.

A stock analysis platform. The heavy part is not the interface but the data. Price feeds, financial statements and news come from scattered sources, and all of it has to be normalised and kept current. Backend built with NestJS on PostgreSQL.

Frequently asked questions

Is custom software more expensive than off-the-shelf?
The upfront cost is higher, yes. But packaged software charges monthly per head, and usually pushes you to a higher tier as the company grows. Custom software is paid once, after which you carry only hosting and maintenance. The break-even point depends on user numbers, and we work that figure out with you before starting.
How long does it take?
A usable first release usually takes two to four months, depending on how complex the work is. We deliver in stages, so you are not waiting until the end to see anything.
We have software from another vendor. Will you take it on?
Yes. We read the code and assess its state first, then say plainly whether to continue with it or rewrite. Not every legacy system deserves a rewrite, and recommending one benefits us more than it benefits you.
Can our old Excel data be migrated?
Yes, we do this regularly. The hard part is not moving the data. Old data tends to be incomplete and inconsistent, so it has to be reconciled carefully before go-live.
Where does the software run?
On cloud servers, or on servers at your own premises if the data cannot leave. We deploy either way.
Are we tied to Solv after handover?
No. You get the full source code, the documentation and administrative control of the servers. We pick mainstream technology so you can find someone else to take over if you want to.
Do you offer long-term maintenance?
Yes. Many clients keep us on for fixes and new features in batches. It is your choice, not a condition written into the contract.
